Monuments to the Everyday

Author: Alyson Agar

Year: 2019

Abstract

The photographic series, Monuments to the Everyday, was exhibited at NGCA (Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art) and MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art), considers the spaces between photographic and performance practice, where observations are affirmed through construction and curation and are positioned as sculptural installations in the environment, encapsulated in the photographic image. The intervention in an everyday scene reconditions the experience of the environment; heightened consideration of colour augments the eminence of installations; reframed as monuments to the everyday.
