Students Debbie Todd, Rachel Marsh, Fi McClurg, Jack Purvis, Matthew Fletcher, Clement Hewison and Rihanna Fletcher have been shortlisted for the Hahnemühle Student Awards!
Chosen by photography tutors from UK universities, 43 selected students from across the UK where considered by the jury for the shortlist. The aim of the The Hahnemühle Student Award is to bring developing photographers’ portfolios to international attention and support early-career talent within the industry.

Pat with the head of Chris the Postman (107 words)
This image inspired by the work of Caravaggio. Pat, a retired nurse, is holding the head of Chris, who is a union organiser for the CWU. Chris represents his members therefore is in a similar position to John the Baptist who was a preacher with a large following. Pat is portraying Salome who was represented as a young and beautiful woman, in the modern world age is irrelevant. This image is responding to reactions to changes within society and involving the historical postal system. The image has been created to convey a current modern narrative and, similarly to Caravaggio, is detailing every day people, with a connection to the story, rather than paid models.

Rachel Marsh
This piece documents my journey into the process of wet plate collodion. The viewer is encouraged to focus less on the subject and more on the imperfections that using this process offers. Each plate is unique, the flaws are as much part of the image as the subject itself drawing a visual parallel to the complex and individual personality of the model.
