Faith Maddison The Daniel Ross Prize Award Winner 2023

Faith Maddison is this years winner of the The Daniel Ross Fine Art Prize which recognises the student who has consistently excelled across all aspects of their studies during the three years of their programme. It bears the name of a student who excelled in everything he did during his time at The Northern School of Art.

Faith was awarded the prize, not only because she has worked incredibly hard to excel in almost every module she has undertaken and in so doing developed a wonderfully joyous and energetic visual language – she has also thrown herself into every aspect of studying at the school. As well as organising and participating in many of the excellent exhibitions across the region she has also been the Department’s Student Representative one of the School’s Ambassadors and had her mural painting of Ruth Bader Ginsberg featured on  the cover of our 2023 prospectus.

Find out more about Faith and her work by reading on:

Why did you choose to study at The Northern School of Art

I chose to study here as the staff were so kind and were interested in me and my artwork. They were extremely welcoming and asked me loads of questions. I also fell in love with the studio spaces and the small class sizes.

What is your favourite memory of your time at the school

My favourite memory from the school has to be having lots of banter with the school staff as well as all the really bad but still funny jokes my lecturer would tell us all.

What are you doing next and what are your plans/ ambitions for the future

My next steps are to get my PGCE teaching qualification and then move on to teaching art in secondary schools and going on to do my Masters in Arts Practice at The Northern School of Art.

Any advice for future students applying for the same course as you

My advice would be to do it. The course has such a wide scope of variety for everyone applying and you get so much creative freedom to explore your own path for your artwork.

Anything Else you want to add:

I would like to thank everyone who has helped me on this journey as I have so much support and have gotten so many opportunities from it.
