Head of Stage & Screen

Qualifications:

Stu has managed a range of creative arts provisions in both FE and HE, following 15 years as a subject teacher in Creative Film and Media. As Head of Stage and Screen, he oversees programmes in Costume, Set, Modelmaking, Acting and Film, TV and Theatre Production. Stu’s focus is on the provision of high-quality, inclusive and challenging education that prepares graduates for industry whilst developing their personal ambitions within their art form. He has facilitated a number of nationally recognised student/ industry collaborative projects, including the feature documentary ‘A Concert for Heroes’ (2017), anti-radicalisation film ‘Infected’ (2018) and cyber-crime awareness short ‘Hack’ (2020). He is a co-producer on the film ‘Temperance’ (2025), filmed in the North East of England and set in Prohibition-era America.

Stu has a Master’s in Education from Durham University, specialising in technology in arts education. He is a practising filmmaker/ producer and former corporate and commercial media company director.

Stu is actively engaged in promoting and conducting research at the school, as a member of the research committee and as part of his teaching role on the BA(Hons) Film, TV and Theatre Production Degree. Stu is a member of the North East Screen Industries Partnership Workforce and Skills group, where he works with other regional educational providers and industry representatives to conceive and implement strategies for growth, inclusion and promotion of Screen education and industries. As Head of Stage and Screen, Stu manages partnerships with various Stage and Screen organisations, including our close link with The Arc in Stockton and the Connected Campus initiative with North East Screen.
