Find out more about John Mannick, BA (Hons) Commercial Photography graduate and winner of the Anjool Malde Commercial Photography Award.

The Anjool Maldé Memorial Trust, a UK registered charity, was set up to keep alive Anjool’s legacy of a kindred and enlivened spirit that lit up so many lives and inspired and helped others to make most of their talents.

The Photography Awards give recognition for the talent of one student from the BA (Hons) Commercial Photography programme and one from BA (Hons) Photographic Practice (with Moving Image) and are an exciting addition to the current memorial awards already in place in his name and have quickly grown in prestige and have become highly coveted marks of honour with the beneficiaries going on to achieve higher and greater things.

  • What is your home town and which school/college did you join the School from?

I am from Darlington and studied at Middlesbrough College before joining the School’s commercial photography degree course.

  • Why did you choose to study at The Northern School of Art?

Being commercial photography orientated it was a no brainer to choose to study here, the facilities and teaching were just what I was looking for and from the moment I had my interview I just knew it was for me.

  • What’s your favourite memory of your time at the School (academically as well as socially!)

It must be winning the Anjool Malde 2022 Commercial Photography award. I was not expecting this at all so was blown away, it is a great honour to receive this award alongside some very, very talented artists over the years.

  • What are you doing next and what are your plans/ambitions for the future?

I am carrying on my studies at The Northern School of Art with one of the MA degrees offered – I have chosen to do the MA Arts Practice course in September.

I am also hoping to open my own little shop/gallery and hopefully be able to give something back in the future by maybe teaching and sharing the knowledge I have gained over the years.

  • Any advice for future students applying for the same course as you?

My advice would be if you are passionate about what you do and your photography then you should really consider The Northern School of Art as an option. The photography degree covers everything you could imagine regarding photography, I am happy that I made that choice.

  • Anything else you want to add?

If you are even considering an education at The Northern School of Art, then you are already in the right place to further your education and future career prospects.

  • Where can people find out more about your work?
