Throughout these isolating, weird and unbelievable times it’s easy (and absolutely OKAY) to let every lockdown day be consumed by the white noise of news outlets, endless social media threads of banana bread and sourdough, or maybe getting lost in the blackhole of Disney+.
As the easing of lockdown unfolds, we wanted to give you some ways to help reignite the fire and regain inspiration after a creative hiatus.
1. Take notice
Inspiration comes to us in all forms. Sometimes it’s an old photograph which shows us progression, sometimes it’s the beauty in nature, showing us resilience and growth. Sometimes it’s a friend’s kind words, or even a dramatic monologue from a binge-worthy boxset. Inspiration comes from anything, as long as you take notice.
2. Refresh your feeds
We get so much fuel from social media, it’s true. Having access to endless global content at the swipe of a finger is a fantastic tool for our creative ideas web. Take the time to declutter your feeds and follow those accounts that give you some electricity. At @thenorthernart we are extremely aware of the importance of sharing beautiful work, which is why our feeds are always buzzing with the best of our students’ work.
3. Know your capabilities
Take some time to look over your favourite pieces of work and let yourself be proud! Speak to your loved ones and share your work or ideas with them too. Talking out loud or spit balling ideas always helps them grow and take their shape. You are a talented creative, believe in your capabilities.
