At The Northern School of Art we’re very proud of our creative, specialist and collaborative community. Our students are taught by industry specialists, many of whom are practitioners who continue to work across the creative sector.

We’re delighted to be able to spotlight one of The Northern School of Art’s print technicians, Kathryn Bell, pictured below, a practicing painter and printmaker who teaches and demonstrates print techniques and bookbinding to BA degree students studying on the School’s Graphic Design, Illustration, Fine Art and Textiles programmes.Kathryn Bell Print Technician

Kathryn, who sells her work in Durham and regularly exhibits and sells work at specialist art and print fairs, is a member of People of Print, a directory of printmakers, illustrators and graphic designers who are outstanding in their field.

She is also a featured printmaker with Green Door Studios ‘International Print Exchange’, a showcase of inspirational, accomplished and passionate printmakers all over the world that utilise contemporary printmaking today.

Kathryn’s work is inspired by natural objects, colour, movement and texture.

She comments: “I am inspired by everyday natural objects that are full of colour, movement of shape and texture.

“When I’m out walking and playing with my children we notice the shape of hedgerows, flowers and clouds, all of these things contribute to the images that I make. I am constantly inspired when talking and sharing ideas with other artist friends.”

Kathryn adds: “My studio is my dining room at home, which, once the children have gone to school, is transformed into my print space.”Screen printed cushions Kathyrn Bell
